World Environment Day 2023 – Message from Dr. Roomi S. Hayat, Chairperson IUCN, Pakistan National Committee

On this World Environment Day, we come together to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time i.e. plastic pollution. With over 400 million tons of plastic being produced annually, our planet is facing an overwhelming influx of plastic waste. It is high time we act. As part of the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution, let’s work together to halt the relentless flow of plastic into our oceans, rivers, and precious ecosystems.

Our pursuit for a sustainable future, requires a collective effort from individuals, businesses, and governments alike. By committing ourselves to plastic footprint reduction, promoting reuse and recycling, and searching creative approaches to combat plastic pollution at its source, we can achieve success in beating plastic pollution.

On this Day, let us make a pledge to combat plastic pollution. Whether it is by refusing single-use plastics, supporting local businesses that prioritize sustainable practices, or advocating for stronger policies… your actions matter. Together, we can make a difference.

Let us seize this opportunity to forge a path towards a healthier and more resilient planet for ourselves and future generations. Together, let us beat plastic pollution and leave a lasting legacy of environmental stewardship.
