Introduction and Context

The current Government of Pakistan, under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, has addressed on both the national and global stage, the two challenges of the climate crisis and biodiversity loss through the Green Stimulus programme, the Restoration Fund, the Billion Tree Tsunami programme and the Recharge Pakistan programme. They have initiated the notification of National Parks and Protected Areas and wildlife conservation. All these varied initiatives have been done within a human development and livelihoods context. IUCN Standard to boost impact of nature-based solutions to global challenges

IUCN today unveiled a Global Standard providing the first-ever set of benchmarks for nature-based solutions to global challenges. The new IUCN Global Standard will help governments, business and civil society ensure the effectiveness of nature-based solutions and maximise their potential to help address climate change, biodiversity loss and other societal challenges on a global scale. IUCN, Pakistan National Committee Members express concern over Clifton Beach development project

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the IUCN Member Organizations in Pakistan was held on June 22, 2020. The meeting was Chaired by Mr. Roomi S. Hayat, Chairperson, IUCN Pakistan National Committee of the IUCN Members. Mr. Malik Amin Aslam, IUCN Vice President & Regional Councillor, Asia; and Adviser to the Prime Minister of Climate Change also attend this meeting. Rural Aid is working on the following activities:

A). Awareness Raising campaign about the prevention of Coronavirus and Rights Protection by development of IEC material (Copy attached). These materials disseminated to general public, youth volunteers, MC and DETF members, community members, CBOs, activists and TACS stakeholders through social media, print media/newspapers (copy attached) and WhatsApp massages on regularly basis from 18 March 2020.
