IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature is organizing the 5th Asia Regional Conservation Forum (RCF) from September 27 to 30, 2011 in Incheon, Republic of Korea.
The venue of the Forum is Songdo Convensia (www.songdoconvensia.com) which is about 15 minutes from the Incheon airport. Held every four years, the event will be co-hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Republic of Korea, the IUCN National Committee of Members in Korea and IUCN. The forum will bring together approximately 500-700 representatives from IUCN’s membership, commissions, secretariat, Council, donors and partners in Asia.
The forum aims at facilitating the identification of critical environmental and conservation issues facing the region and also a broad-based agreement across the environment and development constituency on how best these issues and concerns can be addressed.
This will be a four-day event. The first two days of the forum will be focused on exploring current conservation issues, sharing innovative experiences and building partnerships for future action. The proposed IUCN Asia Intersessional Programme for the next quadrennium (2013—2016) will be presented followed by panel discussions. The third day will be dedicated to members’ business and preparations for IUCN’s World Conservation Congress to be held in Jeju, Republic of Korea 6-15 September 2012. On the fourth day, The Government of Korea will arrange an eco-tour to showcase Korea’s rich natural and cultural heritage and measures taken for its management. Throughout the RCF, the programme will be enhanced by contributions from our Korean hosts and IUCN’s member organizations from the regions.
IUCN Asia is currently developing a detailed programme of the forum that will be available shortly on the website.
