The Nansen Conference on Climate Change and Displacement in the 21st Century convened by the Norwegian Government on 6 and 7 June 2011, in Oslo, gathered together academic experts, representatives of governments, international agencies and civil society, with the objective of arriving at a set of recommendations for action. Topics for discussion included the vulnerability, resilience and capacity for adaptation of communities in areas that are prone to disasters and environmental changes due to climate change; the protection of displaced people; and the promotion of action to help prevent or manage displacement.

IUCN Pakistan celebrated the World Day to Combat Desertification

A Press Briefing was organized by IUCN Pakistan in collaboration with Baanhn Beli and FPCCI (Environment & CSR) at IUCN Country Programme Office. A few presentations were made by the experts on the benefits of the drylands and threats faced by them. Mr. Javed Jabbar, global IUCN Vice President and Asia Regional Councilor informed the particpants that the World Day to Combat Desertification is observed every year on June 17th  all over the world. The aim of the United Nations in designating a day of observance is to sensitize the public and media to the increasing dangers of desertification, land degradation and drought.

member organizations in its well-attended meeting held on May 10, 2011 in Karachi adopted a resolution to record its deep respects and regards for the dedicated and selfless services of the environmental activists Abdul Ghani, General Secretary, Pakistan Fisher Folks and Haji Abu Bakar of Kaka Pir village who were brutally murdered on 4th/5th May 2011.  The Committee expressed its sincere condolences to the bereaved families.
