An Inaugural Ceremony of Pakistan Navy’s Mangroves Plantation Campaign 2021 was held at Bhambore Creek, along the coast of Sind province. Vice Admiral Zahid Ilyas (HI(M) S Bt, Commander Coast was chief guest of the event. This was Pakistan Navy’s sixth mangroves plantation campaign since 2016. Since 2016 Pakistan Navy has planted around 7.00 million mangrove saplings. Mr. Mahmood Akhtar Cheema, Country Representative, IUCN Pakistan was the keynote speaker at the event.

IUCN welcomes Dr. Dindo Campilan as Regional Director for Asia, succeeds Ms. Aban Marker-Kabraji

IUCN is delighted to announce that the Asia Regional Office in Bangkok is welcoming a new leader at its helm. Dr. Dindo Campilan was named Regional Director for Asia starting 22 February 2021. In coordination with Mr. Mason Flynn Smith, the Regional Director for Oceania, Dr. Campilan will also lead the Asia-Oceania hub and provide strategic support functions to the Oceania Regional Office based in Fiji. Sindh Forest Department dedicates part of Island to Tahir Qureshi – Baba-e-Mangroves as Tahir Qureshi Garden

The Sindh Forest Department, Government of Sindh, organized an event at Shah Bander to dedicate an island to Legendary Forester Tahir Qureshi – Baba-e-Mangroves (Father of Mangroves) in recognition of his services rendered towards conservation of mangroves along the Pakistan coast.  The event was attended by a large number of Forest Department officials, IUCN staff members, admirers and family members of Tahir Qureshi.
