International Day of Forests 2017

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests (IDF) in 2012. The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests. On each International Day of Forests, countries are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns. The theme for each International Day of Forests is chosen by the Collaborative Partnership on ForestsThe theme for 2017 is Forests and Energy.

The IUCN Global Council elects former Minister of State for Environment Malik Amin Aslam Khan as its Vice President

The 36-Member IUCN’s Global Council in its first meeting held on February 8th, 2017 at Gland, Switzerland elected former Minister of State from Pakistan, Mr. Malik Amin Aslam Khan as IUCN’s Global Vice President for the period 2017-2020. In this role, he will advise and closely assist the current President of IUCN, Mr. Zhang Xinsheng of China who was elected at the World Conservation Congress held in Hawaii in September 2016.
