Chairman IUCN Pakistan National Committee Lauds Government’s Protected Areas Initiative

Dr. Roomi S. Hayat, Chairperson, IUCN Pakistan National Committee, has welcomed the new Protected Areas Initiative, launched by Prime Minister Imran Khan on July 2, 2020, terming it a major impetus to nature conservation in Pakistan.

In his statement, Dr. Roomi S. Hayat, noted that the Initiative marked a significant milestone “in our efforts towards the protection of Pakistan’s natural forests and parks, and will pave the way for their robust management and governance, while engaging the communities as critical stakeholders.”

Dr. Hayat said he hoped that the Margalla Hills National Park, situated in the federal capital and chronically encroached upon, would also be brought under consideration as that too was in want of proper care and attention given its precious flora and fauna.
