The global growth model is clearly on an unsustainable pathway. An exponentially expanding population, extravagant consumption patterns, rising greenhouse gases triggering catastrophic climate changes, dwindling biodiversity reserves, rapid and unregulated urbanization – these are just some of the environmentally alarming trends delivered by the existing model for economic growth. Thus, it is no surprise that while the global GDP has more than doubled in the past three decades the planet has paid a very heavy price with more than 60% of its natural ecosystems being degraded. IUCN Pakistan appoints Mahmood Akhtar Cheema as Country Representative

Mr. Mahmood Akhtar Cheema, Country Representative IUCN Pakistan

IUCN Pakistan has appointed Mr. Mahmood Akhtar Cheema as Country Representative. Mr. Mahmood Akhtar Cheema brings with him over 20 years of experience in natural resource management and more than 15 years of experience with IUCN.

The proposed city of Zulfikarabad in Sindh is impregnated with environmental and social risks

Zulfikarabad, the dream city of the president of Pakistan, has sparked another controversy in Sindh. In spite of tooth and nail opposition, the government seems ready to proceed with its plans. The project, originally named as Jheruk, was first heard of in 2009. The scheme was later relocated to further south of Thatta district in Jati, Shah Bunder, Keti Bunder and Kharo Chaan talukas.
