Commemoration of IUCN’s 75th anniversary in Pakistan

The 75th anniversary of IUCN was commemorated which was chaired by Dr. Kauser Abdullah Malik, Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research. The event was further adorned by the presence of esteemed guests, including Mr. Javed Jabbar, former Global Vice President of IUCN, Mr. Malik Amin Aslam, the former Global Vice President of IUCN and former Minister of Environment, Government of Pakistan, Dr. Roomi Saeed Hayat, Chairperson of the National Committee of IUCN Members, Mr. Amir Iqbal, Chief Executive of SECMC and Thar Foundation and representatives from various IUCN Member organizations. World Environment Day 2023 – Message from Dr. Roomi S. Hayat, Chairperson IUCN, Pakistan National Committee

On this World Environment Day, we come together to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time i.e. plastic pollution. With over 400 million tons of plastic being produced annually, our planet is facing an overwhelming influx of plastic waste. It is high time we act. Murree Kahuta Kotli Sattian, National Park Management Plan validated by the stakeholders

A one-day workshop on MKKS National Parks management plan validation was held at the Pearl Continental hotel in Bhurban, Murree, as part of the KAROT, Biodiversity Management Plan Implementation Project.
Mr. Asim Jamal from IUCN Pakistan welcomed the attendees and provided an update on the development of the National Park Management Plan. Dr. Z. B. Mirza presented a critical review of the draught management plan and identified areas for improvement in the management plan. IUCN Member Organizations express concern over the Chilgoza Forests fire in the Suleiman Mountain Range

The survey report ascertains immediate food insecurity amongst the local communities and recommends monthly food rationing.
